Job Requisition JR-2024-22 Lifeguard/Instructor (Part-Time) (Open) Job Family CUPE Start Date: 2024-01-30 Job Close Date: 2024-02-14 Internal: February 7, 2024 Primary Posting Hourly Rate: YEAR OF HIRE RATE: $21.21 PER HOUR

Up to three (3) positions available

Hours: a minimum of 25 hours per week

NOTE: Posting closes at 12:00 AM on the specified date, with the competition concluding at 11:59 PM the day before.

In this role reporting to the Manager, Aquatics, responsibilities include instructing classes for both children and adults across various swimming levels and fulfilling regular lifeguard duties.

Duties Include:

  • Overseeing guests and maintaining a hazard-free pool area as part of routine lifeguard duties.
  • Planning and instructing swim programs as required.
  • Documenting facility incidents, water quality, cleaning schedules, checklists, reports, and program records.
  • Conducting water quality tests in swimming pools.
  • Performing assigned cleaning and minor preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Undertaking additional duties as necessary.

All City of Vernon employees may be called upon to assist in providing emergency services, which may differ from their regular duties.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swimming Instructor Certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option).
  • Current CPR Level C certification.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates initiative and eagerness to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, exhibiting courtesy and professionalism with customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to maintain records, complete incident reports, and perform related clerical duties.
  • Proficient in operating water testing equipment and first aid equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an acceptable (Vulnerable Sector) Police Information Check.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Standard First Aid Certification.
  • Pool Operators Level 1.
  • Lifesaving Instructor Certification.
