IUM is currently seeking a full-time Water Operator Level III to join our team in the beautiful Okanagan/Shuswap region of British Columbia.

Job Details:

  • Hourly Rate: Compensation ranges from $40 to $43 per hour, contingent upon certification and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Certification: Applicants must hold an EOCP Water Distribution Level III or Level II in Water Distribution, with a commitment to progress towards Level III within the year.
  • Additional Credentials: Possession of wastewater tickets and Red Seal certifications in other trades is considered advantageous.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, mechanical aptitude, and effective communication skills are vital for fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.

Key Competencies:

  • Mechanical Troubleshooting: Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues.
  • Team Player: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Education: A High School Diploma (Grade 12) is required.
  • Driver’s License: Applicants must hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience: A minimum of 4 years’ experience in water treatment or distribution, or equivalent, is preferred.
  • Certification: Water Distribution Level III certification (or minimum Level II with progression to Level III within the year) is necessary.
  • Background Check: Ability to pass and maintain a criminal record check.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with SCADA systems, mapping, and record-keeping is advantageous.
  • Safety Certifications: Confined space entry certification and Chlorine Handling Certificate are required.

  • Residency: The ideal candidate should be willing to reside in the Salmon Arm area.

  • Flexibility: Candidates must be flexible to respond to system alarms and emergencies outside of regular office hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance: Conduct preventive maintenance, cleaning, repairs, and inspection of water and wastewater systems and equipment, including collecting and transporting water quality samples.
  • Training: Assist with training new employees.
  • Quality Assurance: Test and analyze water quality, with familiarity in UV systems being an asset.
  • Problem-Solving: Interpret data from instrumentation and alarms; analyze, calibrate, and troubleshoot problems, developing and implementing effective solutions.
  • Monitoring: Monitor and adjust disinfection systems, utilizing SCADA and chlorine handling procedures.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of the water systems, including operational records, readings, maps, and shift logs.
  • Safety: Demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices, ensuring tasks comply with current regulations governing water supply, treatment, and distribution.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency call-outs/standby duties as required.
